Science 11 2010-2011
Course Description: The grade 11 science course is a general study of ecology, earth science and environmental issues. In addition to studying ecological principles that are basic to our understanding of environmental interactions and the flow of matter and energy in ecosystems, the course seeks to develop skills in empirical, quantitative and objective data collection needed to describe and analyze the natural world. The main intent of this program is to provide students with a clear perspective on the environment with an emphasis placed on regional and international studies, which is essentially scientific and above all enables them to adopt an informed and responsible stance on the wide range of pressing environmental issues they will inevitably come to face. The core material will be integrated into teacher and guest lectures, demonstrations, laboratory investigations, field work, videos and outside readings with the intent to encourage and develop, within the students, a moral and political response to the course material.
